Welcome to the Black Parade
The song Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance ( MCR) has a meaning or significance about the views of the dying in life and his greatest memory is the marching band parade with his father when he was a child. His father had died and he told him that they would go on without him. In the end, death came to him in the form of a parade he saw. This black parade is a metaphor for death.
In the intro, the songwriter attempts to portray the idea of a patient dying in a hospital. In his dying phase, the patient recalls his favorite memory, of being invited by his father to a parade. On that occasion, his father tried to advise him, his father seemed to tell him that when the patient grows up, the patient must do good to others, must help the weak, etc. A positive advice from his father that the patient continues to hold until death will pick him up.
His father seemed to describe to the patient that if we live in this world, we must imitate the nature of the Prophet Moses. Prophet Musa was a good person, he defeated King Pharaoh and the Jews to protect the oppressed people. The thought of the parade also seems to be based on how the parade of King Pharaoh chased Moses in the middle of a split sea.
The lyrics also describe that the patient in his life should not depend on his father, because none of this is eternal, his father will also die someday. The two of them will finally meet in the afterlife on one condition, if the father and the patient have a good attitude, because that good attitude can bring them together in heaven.
Verse 1, refers to the patient's fear of dying. He was afraid that what his father said about the positive advice when they visited the parade was not carried out well throughout his life. He was just afraid of not carrying out his father's advice.
Chorus / reff, describes that human being will die someday, so hold on / maintain a positive attitude within us. The lyric " every Your memory will carry on" further explains that dead humans only leave names and memories. Imagine if we always do good, when we die other people will remember our good things, and vice versa. The lyrics even in all the lyrics, the song looks gloomy, but it's just a metaphor, because all the lyrics are positive.
Verse 2 is all about the world. The world we live in is actually full of people with hatred in their hearts. Without them knowing that hatred will destroy them. Through the lyrics of this song, MCR also tries to explain that we should not be such haters in life.
Bridge has the same idea as verse 2, about how we live in this world not to be a person full of hatred in his heart. We live in a world to be seen as it is, because we are not super heroes either, and even so we must spread kindness.
Conclusion :
The song “Welcome to the Black Parade” is basically about a patient who is dying in his hospital bed. In his dying period to death, the patient remembers his favorite thing, namely when he was invited by his father to see a parade in the past. On that occasion, his father tried to advise him, his father seemed to tell him that when the patient grows up, the patient must do good to others, must help the weak, etc. So his father told him to maintain that positive attitude, because after death one leaves nothing but a name and a memory. In other words, if we always do good to others, when we die other people will remember the good things, and vice versa.
Moral Value :
The song "Welcome to the Black Parade" is considered by some to be the darkest song. However, if you take a closer look at the meaning of the lyrics, actually the lyrics of the song are just a perfect metaphorical game about a positive picture of how we live our lives while we are still alive. Because our actions (whether bad/good) ultimately end in the immutable determination of death. This song seems to teach us about :
1. Remember with death. This song seems to remind us that our life is not eternal. Every good person is certain and has been determined to experience a period of dying in an unavoidable death.
2. Live positively. Referring to destiny's determination that someone must experience death, this song seems to tell us to do positive things. It is clearly illustrated in verse 1, that we live to do good to others, must help the weak, and so on. Because remember, humans die leaving only names with memories. If during our lifetime we do good, then what people remember is our kindness.
3. Listen to the advice of parents. In the song, it is clear that the patient while watching the parade, was advised by his father about how to be a positive person in life. It is this advice from his father that the patient continues to remember until the end of his life. The patient seemed afraid if he did not do what his father said. Because after all, parents do often tell us about positive advice, whether we like it or not, believe that this advice will be useful for us as a guide in life.
